Chicago guard recaps visit to Illinois

2018 prospect Ty Mosely from Chicago Orr had the opportunity to visit Illinois last week. This was the first visit to Champaign for the 6-foot-5 combo guard, and he walked away satisfied.

“It went well,” Mosely said. “I saw the dorms, all the practice facilities, the arena, and the academic buildings as well. I thought everything went well, and I saw everything I wanted to.”

Illinois has been in contact with Mosely for just a few weeks now. His recruitment is led by assistant coach Chin Coleman, so he was pleased with the opportunity to further their relationship and get a better feel for the rest of the Illini staff.

“I really like Coach Coleman,” Mosely said. “He's a good guy. When I was on the visit, I like how the entire coaching staff reached out to me and how comfortable they made me feel in that environment."

Mosely admits he still has things to learn about new Illinois head coach Brad Underwood. However, he does know a little about his past and is intrigued by his style of offense.

"I know he used to be at Oklahoma State and did well there,” Mosely said. “And I know his offense is kind of positionless in a sense, so I think that would fit me really well because I am versatile.”

Although Mosely holds offers from just DePaul and Chicago State at this point, he is beginning to garner attention from many top-tier programs.

Mosely singles out Tulsa, Purdue, Oklahoma State, and Illinois. He also has heard from TCU, Creighton, Missouri, Pitt, Northwestern, Georgia Tech, and Michigan, among others.

Illinois has not yet offered, but Mosely is optimistic that will change soon.

"I would say their level of interest is high,” Mosely said. “I am very interested in Illinois and I hope I get an offer. That would be great."

Mosely is currently in the middle of his AAU season with the Illinois Wolves, which he says is "going great."

He is also in the process of planning visits for the summer.

"I don't have any dates set at this point, but I plan to visit Georgia Tech, Purdue, Creighton, and Michigan," Mosely said.

Mosely also just received an invite to the Under Armour All-America Camp in Philadelphia, which he plans to participate in.

If all goes according to plan, Mosely would like to make a decision by next February.
