West Mesquite (Texas) cornerback Dayven Coleman is currently committed to UCLA, but Illinois is still pressing to become a factor in his recruitment.

The 6-foot-2, 205-pound three-star prospect got on the phone with Lovie Smith earlier this week to talk about his mindset. The conversation started with small talk about their mutual connections to Texas, and it ended with Smith extending an offer to Coleman.

“That offer means a lot to me, especially because it came from Coach Lovie Smith himself, and that’s a big deal because of who he is,” Coleman said. “I have a friend who is committed there - Calvin Avery - and I have a really good relationship with the coaching staff, so I am really glad to get the offer from them.”
