The Block I Report: LB Shammond Cooper tops the board

The Block I Report is our list of top high school prospects that we believe the Illini have the best chance to sign.

With the early signing period coming up December 19-21, the Illini are looking to fill some needs and land some of their remaining targets.

Orange and Blue News also now lists the top prospects on the Illinois recruiting board for the class of 2020.

The Illini currently has 11 commitments in the class of 2019 after a recent pledge from in-state offensive lineman Evan Kirts from Chicago Brother Rice.

The top prospect on the Illinois recruiting board has been on campus in Champaign numerous times, including a trip this fall to take in the Illini game vs. Western Illinois. Illinois, Oklahoma, Missouri, and Texas are thought to be the top schools for Cooper, who is a teammate of Illinois commit Isaiah Williams at Trinity Catholic. Cooper will need to add some bulk, but he's a sideline-to-sideline linebacker who could play right away for Illinois. He plans to announce his decision at the Under Armour All-America Game in January.
