Summer visits likely for WR Cameron Brown

It was a busy weekend for St. Louis CBC receiver Cameron Brown who ran a track meet Saturday then tripped up to Chicago for The Opening camp on Sunday.

After all that, he found the time to chat with me, having just got off of the phone with Illini wide receivers coach Andrew Hayes-Stoker.

"I actually just talked to the (Illinois) coaches right before I called you," Brown said. "I like that they have a great coaching staff and I feel like they will have success."

As for The Opening camp, he enjoyed that too.

"It was a great experience to go against some of the top recruits and see how I stack up," Brown said.

The 6-foot-1 175-pound standout receiver is quick. The 100m dash is his favorite event in track and he's ready to take on recruiting as soon as track is in the books.

"Everything has been going well with recruiting, Brown said. “I've been working out and doing track. Recruiting has slowed down a little bit but that's okay because I can focus on track right now.”

With Big Ten offers in from Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska and Wisconsin he's got plenty of options.

"I haven't taken any visits this spring,” Brown said. “Out of the schools that I haven't been too I would like to visit Oklahoma State, Louisville, Ohio State and a couple others," Brown said.

Coaches all have similar thoughts on how Brown will make an impact at the college level.

"They are liking how I spread the field out and I can make plays with the ball in my hands," Brown said.

That's exactly what he's trying to do heading into his senior season on the gridiron. Brown is coming off of a strong junior campaign, posting 1.023 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns.

"I am trying to help my team win a state championship and have a great season,” Brown said. “I'd like to have more yards than I did this year, more touchdowns and more touches.”
