Sophomore lineman makes another stop in Champaign

He’s only a sophomore in high school, but at 6-foot-6, 290 pounds Crystal Lake (Ill.) South offensive lineman Trevor Keegan already has a Big Ten body.

Northwestern has already offered Keegan. Illinois had him in for an unofficial visit on Saturday.

Keegan was at the Illini game vs. Purdue, and he also talked to the staff about the upcoming renovations to Memorial Stadium that will greatly improve the facilities for the players.

“It was really nice,” Keegan said. “I love the atmosphere and it’s a nice campus. I saw the stadium upgrades. It’s going to look really nice.”

After a trip to Champaign in August, this was the second opportunity for Keegan to learn more about Illinois and get to know offensive line coach Luke Butkus.

“So far, I’ve only talked to (Butkus) two times, but it’s going really well,” Keegan said. “I just wanted to see how the coaches interact with the players.”

Besides the offer from Northwestern, Keegan is also getting heavy interest from Indiana an Iowa. There is obviously a long way to go in his recruitment, so campus visits are mostly fact fining missions.

“I’m just getting to know team and researching them,” Keegan said. “I’m taking it step by step, since I’m so young.”

Keegan lines up a left tackle at Crystal Lake South. Though his team has struggled to a 2-5 record, Keegan feels like he has made some strides on the field this year.

“I’m getting better and better each year,” he said. “I’m having a good season so far.”
