It seemed like it was only a matter of time before Hinsdale (Ill.) South 3-star prospect Zion Griffin started receiving national attention after dominating the AAU circuit in July.

Illinois fans grew curious regarding whether the Illini would pull the trigger and offer the 6-foot-5, 205-pound wing, and the staff put all doubts to rest yesterday after Griffin produced a spectacular performance in front of assistant coach Jamall Walker at the Sunflower Showdown in Kansas City.

“Well, after my performance last week in Lawrence, they contacted me and told me that they were starting to recruit me,” Griffin said. “And then at my 10 o'clock game yesterday, I dropped 35 and Coach Walker was there and offered after that game."
