Oswego (Ill.) East defensive back Antwain Walker is starting to get a good amount of interest on the recruiting trail.
Walker is a two-way player who most schools like on the defensive side of the ball.
He talked what college scouts see in his game.
"I am getting recruited as a cornerback but I play receiver and safety in high school,” Walker said. "They say they like my length, how physical I am and a lot of schools have said they want me to become and even better tackler."
Recruiting interest is picking up for Walker, with Illinois one of the schools showing interest.
"Everything with recruiting is going well,” Walker said. “A lot of schools looking at me, a lot of the MAC. Illinois is looking at me, Iowa, Air Force and some other schools.”
Illinois is definitely interested in what Walker brings to the table, and assistant coach Paul Williams dropped by his high school.
"I haven't visited Illinois yet, but it was the first time that their cornerbacks coach came into the school,” Walker said. “I hadn't talked to him before he came to the school. They told me to come to camp.”
Walker should make it to one of the Illini camps. Illinois coaches are participating in a camp at Lake Forest College on June 10.
During the offseason, Walker is focusing on improving several areas of his game.
"I have improved my hip mobility and definitely getting my legs stronger,” Walker said. “I have gotten stronger at tackling and my foot speed too.”
