The Sunshine State is known for more than just its beaches and theme parks. The high school football ranks produce tons of speed.
One such speedster added a Big Ten offer on Thursday. Illinois is the first Power 5 offer from 2023 athlete Teremun Lott from Inlet Grove High School in the Miami area.
Illinois offered Lott as a wide receiver, with WR coach George McDonald heading up the recruitment. He's also being recruited to play defensive back.
Before the offer from Illinois, Lott held just a handful of MAC and FCS offers. The offer from the Illini was a game-changer, Lott said.
"I have offers from Akron, Toledo, Rhode Island, Bowling Green, Alabama State, and now Illinois," Lott said. "This is a huge offer for me."
Lott has speed to burn, which is evident from watching his film from his junior season at Inlet Grove. He's a homerun threat in the passing game, and averaged over 16 yards per reception.
A two-sport athlete, Lott runs the sprint events for the Inlet Grove track team. Lott said he's big-play capability is what McDonald liked most about his film.
"He evaluated my film and really loved it," Lott said. " I’m very fast on the field no one can stop my speed."
With the offer in hand, Lott now plans to take a visit to Illinois, though no specific date has yet been locked in.
The Illini are bringing in a big group of official visitors in June, so there's a great chance that Lott will be on campus one of those weekends next month.
