Illini offer 2018 safety Newsome

Glenbard North safety Greg Newsome is part of one of the most talented secondaries in the Chicago area.

The 6-2, 170-pound defensive back has fourteen offers to his name, the latest from Illinois and Iowa State.

"Recruiting is going great,” Newsome said. "It's starting to speed up for the better and I'm really enjoying the process.”

Other early offers are from Arkansas, Minnesota, Northwestern, Syracuse, and others.

With the two new Big Ten offers in hand, look for Newsome to check out each school in person.

"I will be visiting both soon probably some time this month,” Newsome said.

As for Illinois, there are several coaches that Newsome has been in contact with the most.

“Coach McGarigle and Coach Lovie Smith have been recruiting me the most,” Newsome said.

The coaching staff stands out for Newsome from the latest schools to extend an offer.

"First I love both of the coaching staffs; they both really show love and make you feel welcomed. Also I love both of the universities as a whole just a great atmosphere and environment,” Newsome said.

Newsome teams in the Panthers secondary with 2018 cornerback Tyrik Henderson, who is also a D1 prospect with Power 5 offers.

Recruiting overall is a process that’s been memorable thus far for Newsome and it’s got the potential to become even more so. Newsome claims no favorites at this point.

"The most fun part about recruiting so far has to be talking to the head coaches of these programs that's have offered me for I love having great conversations with the coaches and beginning to build relationships,” Newsome said.
