JUCO defensive end Sean Adesanya from Eastern Arizona C.C. is fresh off an official visit to Illinois, and he decided to pull the trigger and commit to the Illini.
"The visit to Illinois went well," Adesanya said. "I really just see myself there, I really like the university, and I see myself playing there."
Adesanya (6-foot-4, 230 pounds) was down to Illinois and Pitt. He has a visit schedule to Pitt this coming weekend, but is unsure if he will make that trip after committing to the Illini. Adesanya also had offers from Memphis and Southern Miss.
While on his visit, Adesanya got the full tour, and was hosted by current Illini defender Carrol Phillips, who was also a junior college recruiting for the Fighting Illini.
"We got to tour the whole campus, and spent time with other players," Adesanya said. "(Phillips) said that it's a really good school, and the academics are really good. "
The Illini staff is looking to close strong, as National Signing Day approaches. Adding defensive linemen has been a top priority, and Adesanya gives them a pass rusher off the edge.
Adesanya will arrive on campus in Champaign this May. He says he wants to make an immediate impact on the Illini defense. He sees his versatility and ability to play both the run and pass as a strength.
"I'm ready to start," Adesanya said. "I'm an outside linebacker who can come off of the edge, blitz, and also drop back in coverage."
Illini linebackers coaches Al Seamonson and Mike Ward had both been active in recruiting Adesanya, and Seamonson. The Illini recruited Adesanya for the defensive end / linebacker hybrid LEO position.
"Coach Seamonson is a coach who knows what he's doing, and he takes care of his players," Adesanya said. "I would play the LEO, and he said I would receive playing time immediately I like the Illinois coaching staff, the facilities, and the campus. And I like the family the team has."
Adesanya is the 20th recruit for the Illini in the class of 2015, and the seventh from the JUCO ranks.
