Illinois commit Calvin Avery is just two games into his senior year at Dallas (Texas) Bishop Dunne, but he has already made a large impact on the season.

The 6-foot-2, 315-pound defensive tackle did not get off to an ideal start in their season opening loss, but he and his teammates bounced back in a big way.

“Our first game was in the middle of the day, and I wasn’t really expecting that kind of heat, so that was tough to play through,” Avery said. “But in our second game, I had two sacks and blocked a field goal in overtime to win the game, so that was pretty exciting. So we are 1-1 right now, and we have a big game coming up against the team we lost to in state last year. That’s going to be a good game, so I’m hoping to come out and make some plays.”
