2017 wing Jordan Goodwin came away from an unofficial visit to Illinois on Friday holding the Illini in high regard.
"They're No. 1 right now," Goodwin said, placing the Illini at the top of his list of possible college destinations.
A 6-foot-3 shooting guard from Belleville (Ill.) Althoff, Goodwin ranks a 3-star prospect by Rivals.com and the No. 88 player in the class of 2017.
While on campus in Champaign, Goodwin got to tour the facilities, including a look the State Farm Center, which is under renovation in preparation for the upcoming season.
According to Goodwin, the highlight of the trip was watching the Illini practice at the Ubben basketball facility as they get ready for a trip to Europe.
"They are going to be pretty good this year," Goodwin said. "They have Malcolm Hill and Kendrick Nunn leading them. I could see myself fitting in there with them and play well."
"Everything about the visit was good. I got to see the gym being re-done, the football field, basically the whole campus."
Hill and Goodwin are close - Hill played his high school ball at Belleville East - and Goodwin said the two were able to talk briefly following the practice.
Illinois offered Goodwin in April after his strong performance in the IHSA playoffs, and with the St. Louis Eagles on the AAU circuit.
According to Goodwin, Illinois coach John Groce sees him as a versatile wing who can play multiple roles.
"He said he likes my game and he sees me playing the "2" or "3", and even some "1"," Goodwin said "He likes how I play and that how bad I want to win. I've improved my ball handling and shooting."
He was on another trip this week. Goodwin picked up an offer from St. Louis University while on a visit to check out the Bilikens. His school list continues to grow.
"I have offers from Illinois State, Creighton, Purdue, Kansas State, Virginia Tech, Mizzou, and SLU," he said.
A two sport star, Goodwin plays wide receiver on the Althoff football team. He expects a strong run in the playoffs this fall.
Goodwin isn't yet sure when he wants to make his final college decision.
