4-star receiver talks Illini, Lovie Smith

Naperville (Ill.) Neuqua Valley wide receiver Isaiah Robertson is one of the top prospects in the state of Illinois. Rivals.com ranks Robertson a 4-star recruit and the No. 25 wide receiver in the nation.

The 6-foot-2, 185-pound Robertson just returned from making the finals of the Vegas Pylon 7-on-7 National Champions with Midwest Boom.

"The tournament was hype as always. I loved getting back out there on the field with my boys," Robertson said. "There is nothing like it.”

Midwest Boom is a Chicago-based program that offers football camps, football training, football performance training, college recruiting seminars, college visits, and Spring football 7on7.

"For Boom it's normal because that's just what we do. We definitely made other people realize who we are and that we just keep getting better and better."

While traveling for the tournament, Robertson heard the news that Illinois had hired Lovie Smith. He was hanging out with 2018 athlete Houston Griffith, also an Illini target from Chicago-land, when the news broke.

"I mean I was actually super surprised. I was with Houston when it happened and he told me and I couldn't believe it. It's definitely a huge positive for Illinois," Robertson said.

With offers from Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Minnesota and others, Robertson is a high level recruit that is intrigued by the possibilities that Smith brings to the table.

"Whenever you have a coach with a high profile like Lovie Smith, it always makes the school that much more intriguing," Robertson said.

Overall, recruiting is going well for Robertson.

"There is a lot of mail coming in. I talk to a few coaches over direct message and I call some too. But besides that it's pretty quiet. I'm just trying to plan out my visits right now," Robertson said.
