2020 lineman Barrett takes Illini junior day visit

2020 offensive lineman Dylan Barrett from St. Charles East is one of the top underclassmen in the state of Illinois.

On Saturday, Barrett made the trip to Champaign to check out an Illini junior day. He recaps that trip and updates his recruitment.

Barrett hung around the offensive line during his visit and watched coach Luke Butkus run the players through drills at Memorial Stadium.

He also got a tour of the facilities and campus, and got to see what Illinois has planned for the new Football Performance Center that will open next year.

"It was great seeing the facilities and seeing the facilities and the improvements they are going to be doing," he said.

Illinois recently offered Barrett, and he also holds an offer from Northern Ilinois.

Watching the Illinois go through practice was a highlight of his trip to Champaign, according to Barrett.

"Just being out at practice I got to see how they do things and how they compete against each other and get better," Barrett said. "Mistakes are corrected right away and (Butkus) makes sure everything perfect."

Northwestern and several MAC schools are showing Barrett heavy interest. He plans to visit Northwestern, Iowa, Purdue, and NIU this spring.

Barrett said the recent offer from the Fighting Illini was a big one.

"It's incredible," he said. "The Big Ten puts linemen in the NFL. It's good to have an opportunity to play here. "
