2019 tight end getting early B1G offers

Illinois is one of three early Big Ten offers from 2019 tight end Logan Lee from Orion (Ill.). Lee was recently on campus in Champaign to check out the Illinois program in person.

OrangeandBlueNews.com caught up with Lee to get the latest on his recruitment and his thoughts on Illinois.

Lee picked up offers from Iowa, Illinois and Michigan, all in the same week.

"It's very overwhelming considering that my first three offers came within five days of each other," Lee said. "I'm very blessed to have this opportunity. It's just amazing."

The Big Ten offers are exciting for Lee. Growing up in the Quad Cities area, he has been a fan of the conference, especially Iowa and Illinois.

"Iowa is an hour away and Illinois is 2 1/2 hours away," he said. "Those are the schools I grew up rooting for, and they're basically in my back yard."

According to Lee, college scouts like his versatility, blocking, and play-making ability. He lines up at multiple positions in high school including wide receiver, tight end, fullback, and defensive end.

"The coaches that I've talked to are impressed with how physical I am with my blocking," Lee said. "We are more of a running team, so I wasn't able to get very many catches. However, I have been to a couple of camps and they were impressed with my catching at those camps."

The offer from Illinois came from head coach Lovie Smith when Lee was in Champaign for an unofficial visit.

"I ended up calling coach Luke Butkus and they invited me down for a visit," Lee said. "On the visit, I talked to Coach Smith at the end of the day. We talked for about 30 minutes and he ended up offering me a scholarship."

The opportunity to get to know some of the Illini players was something that stood out about his visit, according to Lee.

"I got to hang around with the football players," Lee said. "They are very tight knit group, and very welcoming. I felt like one of them. I was also taken on a tour of the campus."
