What 5-foot-10, 170-pound athlete Isaiah Harris lacks in stature, he makes up for in speed and allusiveness. A 2-star prospect out of Fort Worth (Texas) All Saints Episcopal, Harris runs in the 4.5 and possesses outstanding quick-cut ability.
The Illini staff liked what they saw on film and extended an offer to Harris, with assistants Mike Bellamy and Ryan Cubit both involved in the recruitment.
"It's been great talking to them," Harris said. "It's given me a good idea what it's like up there and what they're trying to do with the program. It seems like a nice place to be."
Harris was one of the top performers at the Rivals Camp Series in Dallas back in March, where he worked out at wide receiver and running back.
With interest picking up from around the country, Harris is expecting to add to his list of offers this summer.
"I have offers Houston, Kansas State, Colorado State, North Texas, Illinois, Texas State, and Army," Harris said. "The school that is probably recruiting me the hardest is Houston, and I'm hearing from a lot of other schools."
Illinois is recruiting Harris as a slot receiver. He's a versatile offensive player with the ability to separate and make plays in the passing game, and also pick up chunk yards in space on screens and jet sweeps. He gained over 1,200 all-purpose yards last season as a junior, and was also effective in the return game.
Harris says he's taking his time in the recruiting process with no specific time table for making his final college decision. He broke down some of the main factors.
"I'm looking for a school with the type of people I want to be around and a good education," Harris said. "That comes before football. I want to have a major where I like what I do, because I want to enjoy my life after football. And a coaching staff that cares about the players."
