Illinois is the second Big Ten offer for 2017 offensive lineman Blaise Andries from Marshall (Minn.).
The 6-foot-6, 290-pound Andries said he has been keeping tabs on the Illini season.
"It means a lot to be offered by such a high caliber university such as Illinois," Andries said. "I know that they are having a good season so far with a big win over Nebraska."
Several other Big Ten schools are in the mix early on.
Andries picked up an offer this month while on a visit to Northwestern. He has also tripped to Iowa, Michigan State, and Minnesota, and is getting looks from Michigan State, Indiana, and Purdue.
It's too early to name a leader, according to Andries. He now has more visits on tap.
"I'm keeping an open mind to all schools," Andries said. "I will be at Minnesota on Saturday to watch the Gophers take on Nebraska. I am also trying to work my schedule around a visit to Notre Dame on Nov. 14."
Illini assistants Al Seamonson and Tom Brattan are both involved in Andries recruitment. According to Andries, he will try to work out a date for an Illini visit in the next few months.
On the gridiron, Andries has helped lead his team to a 7-1 record as they gear up for the state playoffs. An outstanding student, Andries said recruiters like what he brings on and off the field.
"College coaches like my character and grades off the field, and my size, physicality, and mentality on the field," he said.
