Illinois was the first Big Ten offer for 3-star offensive lineman Gavin Cupp from Leipsic (Ohio) when they extended an offer back in November.
Now the 6-foot-6, 275 pound tackle hopes to make it to Champaign for a campus visit this spring.
"I like Illinois," Cupp said. "They were one of the first bigger schools to offer me a scholarship. Hopefully I can make it to spring practices so I can learn more about their program."
Cupp checks in as the No. 28 offensive tackle in the nation, and has pulled in offers from Illinois, Illinois, West Virginia and Cincinnati to go along with several MAC schools.
He has also drawn interest from Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Indiana, Pittsburgh, Kentucky, and Notre Dame, among others.
Cupp says he doesn't have any favorites at this point, though an offer from Ohio State would be big. He and his family are Buckeye's fans, and they live two hours from Columbus.
More visits are on tap before Cupp trims his list.
"I'm going to keep all my options open," he said. "I want to see everything before I start naming favorites."
Getting in on Cupp early was a plus for Illinois, and Cupp continues to hear from head coach Tim Beckman and offensive line coach Tom Brattan.
"Coach Beckman and Coach Brattan have really have shown a lot of interest in me which makes me feel pretty good about Illinois," Cupp said. "I'm someone who could be a good fit for their program."
