With an offer from Illinois on the table, defensive tackle Jovan Swann from Greenwood (Ind.) Center Grove is headed to Champaign this weekend for a junior day.
Swann is looking forward to spending some time getting to know his recruiter on the Illini staff, defensive coordinator Tim Banks.
"I have a visit to Illinois on Saturday, and I just got an offer from Illinois last weekend," Swann said. "I'm looking to meet Coach Banks in person, and get my family to meet him. I want to get a family vibe."
The 6-foot-3, 255 pound Swann also holds offers from Ball State, Indiana, Iowa, Miami-Ohio, and Western Michigan. Picking up another Big Ten offer was meaningful for Swann.
"It was a big offer," Swann said. "Any Big Ten offer is a great offer. Coach Banks direct messaged me on Twitter, and I called him and he told me he wanted to offer based on my film and my grades. Any time you get an offer it's a great feeling and humbling."
Swann claims not favorites so far. He hopes to get a better feel for the recruiting process this spring. After the trip to Illinois, he has visits lined up to Western Michigan, Iowa, Ball State, Vanderbilt, Michigan State, and Purdue.
"It's early in the process, so I'm keeping an open mind," Swann said. "I don't plan on committing anywhere soon. Based on my visits, I'll have a top five made."
As a junior last season, Swann posted 7 ½ sacks and 10 ½ tackles for loss. He helped lead Center Grove to the Indiana Class 6A state semifinals. Athletic but a bit undersized, Swann could play tackle or strong-side defensive end at the next level.
"I'm a versatile defensive lineman," Swann said. "Coaches like me at the 3-technique, and they like that I'm a great student. I take pride in that."
