Leever visits Illini, looks for camp offer

2015 offensive lineman Ian Leever from Loveland (Ohio) dropped by an Illinois spring practice last week, and plans a return trip this June for an Illini one-day camp.
Leever spent time getting to know Illini O-line coach A.J. Ricker and becoming familiar with the program and the school in general. If everything goes to plan, he expects to pick up an Illinois offer early this summer.

"(Ricker) told me he is going to come by this spring to see me," Leever said. "Then he wants to get me up for a camp so he can see me move. I will probably make it to one of their one-day camps in June. If everything works out the way it should, I will get an offer soon."
The usual tour of the campus and facilities were part of Leever's agenda in Champaign, along with a chance to go through the pre-practice routine with the team and watch them on the practice field for spring drills.
"I got to sit in on the position meetings with Coach Ricker and the offensive line," Leever said. "Then we watched practice and met with academic advisors and got a campus tour.
According to Leever, he has built a good relationship with Ricker and he enjoyed spending time around the staff and the team. Leever talked about the things that stood out the most to him about his visit to Illinois.
"I like the personality of all the coaches - it's a real friendly atmosphere," Leever said. " And definitely the facilities. The weight room is the best of the best."
Loveland is located in the northeast suburbs of Cincinnati. In 2013, Leever was part of a dominant offensive line that helped pave the way to an OHSAA Division II state title for the Loveland Tigers. They capped off a perfect 15-0 season with 41-23 win over Glenville in the title game.
On the recruiting front, Leever has picked up six offers so far and he is active this spring. He's looking to gather more scholarship offers before naming favorites.
"I'm really trying to pick up some more offers first," Leever said. "So far I have Cincinnati, Ball State, Toledo, Kent St., Akron, James Madison, and Middle Tennessee St. I visited Louisville. I'm visiting Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, and Kentucky."
