2016 linebacker Alfonzo Lambert put together a big junior season last fall at Rockford (Ill.) Auburn. The 6-foot-1, 198 pound Lambert recorded 75 tackles and 4 sacks in helping lead his team to an appearance in the IHSA playoffs.
"My season went pretty good," Lambert said. "Coaches like that I'm quick to the ball, and I'm always in on the hit."
Lambert recently showed off his skills at the Illinois satellite camp at Chicagoland high school Lincoln-Way East. The camp was cut short due to thunderstorms, but Lambert was able to put his physical attributes on display during testing and agility drills.
"I think I was doing well, and standing out," Lambert said. "I was just trying to show my talent to everybody. The Illinois coaches wanted to see me go up against the best."
On his high school club at Auburn, Lambert teams with current Illini commit [db]Juwuane Parchman[/db], a 3-star athlete. An opportunity to play with Parchman at the next level is appealing to Lambert.
"We are as close as ever and are always going to camps together," Lambert said. "We talk about Illinois. He loves the school and he says he can't wait to get down there."
He's still looking for an offer from the Illini, but Lambert says there is mutual interest. The Illini staff is looking at Lambert for their safety / linebacker "STAR" position.
More camps and visits are on tap for Lambert. He plans to stop by NIU, Indiana, Wisconsin, and Michigan. Lambert updated his recruitment.
"I have offers from NIU, Toledo, and North Dakota State," Lambert said. "I've been hearing at lot from Indiana, Wisconsin, and a couple of other Big Ten schools. "
