JUCO tight end talks Illini visit

Illinois was first to offer Iowa Western tight end Andrew Davis, getting in early on a prospect who has the tools to step in and play next year for the Illini - especially with seniors Matt LaCosse and Jon Davis moving on.
With that in mind, the Illini staff brought Davis in for a visit this week to check out the program and catch Illinois on the practice field at Memorial Stadium. According to Davis, the coaches did a good job selling him on how he would fit in OC Bill Cubit's offense.

"Everything went really well," Davis said about the visit. "I got to visit the campus, check out the facilities, and watch practice. I liked everything. I really like the family-oriented coaches. I like the way they run their offense. I got to sit down and watch previous practices, different formations, and plays I would do if I was to go there."
Cubit and tight ends coach Alex Golesh gave Davis the run-down on the multiple formation offense, and how they incorporate the tight ends into their attack.
"They talked about how they use the tight ends; they are very versatile," Davis said. "They split out wide, get down in a stance, and even block from the fullback position. That's definitely something I'm looking for."
So far, recruiting attention for Davis is from Illinois and Miami (Ohio). That should soon pick up when the IWCC Reiver take to the practice field next week for spring drills. His combination of size (6-foot-6, 220 pounds) and athleticism make Dave an intriguing prospect.
Look for Davis' production at Iowa Western to increase exponentially this fall lining up at both tight end and wide receiver. He hopes to expand his options this spring, but the Illini appear to be in good position with Davis.
"I would definitely say they are one of my top schools," Davis said. "Illinois is showing me the most interest right now, and I'm thinking about going there. I'm just trying to think about everything, but I might be making a decision during the summer time."
