JUCO tight end takes official visit

Illinois has commitments from two tight ends in the 2015 class in JUCO product Andrew Davis from Iowa Western C.C., and Caleb Reams from Gurnee (Ill.) Warren Township.
The Illini hosted another tight end for an official visit on Saturday, with the team in action at Memorial Stadium against Texas State.

Chris French, who is sitting out a redshirt year at Saddleback C.C. in Mission Viejo (Calif.), is at the top of the list if the Illini decide to add one more tight end to the class. French arrived on campus in Champaign on Friday.
"The visit was good," French said. "I hung out with the players the first night, and good really good vibes from them. They are a close knit team, like a family. I like the coaches a lot too. They are very friendly."
French said he was impressed by the Illinois campus, and the football and academic facilities after getting a full tour.
He got to spend time the previous day hanging out with current Illini tight ends Matt LaCosse, Tyler White, and Trevor Kanteman.
"I met Matt, and I hung out with Tyler and Trevor on Friday night," French said. "They are really cool and humble guys. So I enjoyed my time with them."
Tight ends coach Alex Golesh is the lead recruiter on French, and the two have built a strong relationship
"Coach Golesh has been recruiting me for a while," French said. "He's really good at keeping in touch. He always calls me up about once a week and checks up on how everything is going. So I was happy to get to Illinois and talk to him in person about his plans for me."
He's not playing this season, but French put together a solid freshman season at Saddleback. He grabbed 32 catches for 364 yards and 5 touchdowns.
Illinois and Iowa State have both offered French, and are the leaders. A decision is likely coming soon. Whether or not the Illini staff decides to add another tight end to the class could be a deciding factor.
