Garden City (KS) Community College quarterback Dwayne Lawson announced his intentions on Twitter to play for Illinois in 2016.

A highly regarded dual-threat quarterback coming out of Tampa (Fla.) Hillsboro in 2014, Lawson originally played at Virginia Tech before transferring to Garden City in August.

Lawson just finished up his season that saw Garden City go undefeated, including a win over Arizona Western in the NJCAA national championship game.

Lawson is the second quarterback to commit to Illinois in the class of 2017, joining Cameron Thomas from Chicago Heights (Ill.) Marian Catholic. Illinois will have four scholarship quarterbacks on the roster; Lawson, Thomas, Chayce Crouch, and Jeff George Jr.

Illinois has offers out to two other Garden City prospects in linebacker Del'Shawn Phillips and cornerback Mike Hughes.
