In-state lineman checks out Illini

The beat goes on for the Illini when it comes to recruiting, and the staff had several prospects on campus this weekend for unofficial visits.
Among the visitors was 2-star offensive lineman Jack Breshears from Batavia (Ill.). The 6-foot-4, 283 pound Breshears is currently committed to Florida Atlantic, but is still going through the process and checking out some other schools. He also holds an offer from Central Michigan.

"My recruitment has been heating up lately. I have been talking a good amount of schools," Breshears said. "I believe I'm going to try to go up for a visit to Northwestern and New Mexico is going to come to the school go see me this week. That's all I know for sure right now the rest is just talking and getting to know the coaches."
Outside linebacker coach Al Seamonson heads up the recruitment for Breshears. Although the Illini lost the game on Saturday to Purdue, Breshears said he still enjoyed his visit overall and the time he spent getting to know the staff, including O-line coach Tom Brattan, and watching the team in action.
"My visit was great," Breshears said. "I loved the atmosphere and the great fan base. Also I really enjoy the offensive line coach and what he has been able to do for U of I's offensive line. They look great. I also love how family oriented the coaching staff is that is also something else that really stuck out to me."
Breshears committed to the FAU Owls back in July after an unofficial visit. While he remains committed, an offer from Illinois is something he definitely would give serious consideration to.
"They are telling me they love my progress I have made size wise from last year," Breshears said. "They have one more spot for the 2015 offensive line class. They want to watch my film but (Seamonson) said he believes I could be a great fit."
Batavia is off to a 5-1 start on the 2014 season, and No. 6 ranking in the IHSA Class 6A poll. Always a good athlete, Breshears has added weight as a senior and improved his technique. He likely projects as a guard at the next level.
"This season I'm doing very well this season and so is my team I couldn't be happier where we are as a program," Breshears said. "Personally, I have gotten bigger, faster, stronger, lower pad level and really improved on using my hands properly. It's been helping me in the games and making a big impact offensively for my team."
