The offensive linemen in the state of Illinois junior class are shaping up to be a talented group.

One at the top of the class is Barrington’s Nick Bart, a 6-3, 287-pound athlete who just came out to compete with the top athletes in the area at the EdgyTim Underclassman Showcase.

“The showcase was very fun,” Bart said. “I got to get out there and compete and I got to learn a lot of techniques from some great coaches.”

We chose Bart as one of the standouts at the event which was held last Monday at the Canlan Sportsplex in Lake Barrington.

Bart said he enjoyed the competition and high level of athlete at the event.

“I feel like everyone knows that everyone is good so you are out here getting your own reps and the competition was good overall,” Bart said.

Barrington went 9-2 on the season advancing to the second round of the Class 8A playoffs, and is one of the most talent rich programs going into next season.

“I like our class next year; we have some good sophomores coming up as juniors. We’ve got a good returning offensive line and our receivers and defense should be pretty solid too. Were also going to see a change in schedule so we will get great competition early in the year so I am looking forward to that,” Bart said.

Illinois is a program that has expressed interest in Bart and he’s headed down to see what they have to offer for a junior day.

“It’s going well,” Bart said about his recruitment. “I’ve been talking to Louisville, Purdue, Bowling Green, Toledo and Illinois. I’ve got two junior days planned; one to Illinois and one to Louisville.

“There is a good basketball game that I’m going down for, to see Illinois versus Wisconsin. Head coach Bill Cubit came into our high school and we talked about coming down for the junior day and the offensive line coach has reached out to me too.”

In the meantime, Bart has several things he’s working to improve.

“I want to play a little lighter and get my speed up and then work on my punch on the run block and work on my footwork as well,” Bart said.
