"I was there a while back in the winter," Borland said. "I'm going back for a visit on July 30th to see it again and get the campus tour."
Illinois offered the 6-foot-1, 215 pounds Borland during an unofficial visit in February. Current Illini outside linebackers coach Al Seamonson played on the same team at Wisconsin with Borland's father Kyle back in the early 80's.
"I've heard a lot from Coach Seamonson and I've talked to the head coach Tim Beckman," Borland said. "I liked it down there. I already know quite a bit about Illinois, how they do things there, and what they're about."
Current Illini Aaron Bailey and Robbie Bain, both Bolingbrook products, are two more connections that Borland has to the Illinois program. Borland was a freshman when Bailey last played quarterback for the Raiders.
"Aaron says all positive things about Illinois," Borland said. "It's a great school, and he likes the coaches."
Interest in Borland continues to pick up. He plans a trip this weekend to Michigan before visiting the Illini on Wednesday. Borland says several Big Ten schools have been in contact with him. He is a year away from making a final decision.
"I'm hearing from Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin, Northwestern, and Stanford," he said. "Most of the Big Ten schools. I would like to make a decision before the season my senior year."
Bolingbrook finished up summer camp and now have a couple of weeks off before starting fall practice. Borland says the defense is looking strong, and the offense is making strides. He will see his role increase this season as a junior.
"Last year we had some trouble scoring points but the offense is coming along," Borland said. "I'll play both sides of the ball this year. They are going to play me a little bit at running back."
Borland lines up at outside linebacker in high school, but will probably make a position change at the next level.
"I will probably play inside in college," Borland said. "I'm an instinctive, physical linebacker. I do well dropping in pass coverage, but can also play the run very well."
