Illini roll out red carpet for Jackson

The Fighting Illini staff is rolling out the red carpet for 5-star defensive back Adoree' Jackson from Gardena (Calif.) Serra this weekend.
Getting Jackson on campus for a visit is a step forward for Tim Beckman and Illinois, a program that hasn't signed a recruit of Jackson's stature since Ron Zook landed Martez Wilson and Arrelious Benn in 2007.

Jackson (5-foot-10, 170 pounds) is originally from Belleville (Ill.) and he still has family there. That connection is a plus for the Illini, who are competing with a virtual who's who of college football for Jackson's services.
In a recent interview with Orange and Blue News, Jackson talked about that Illinois connection.
"The connection to Illinois is that its home for me," Jackson said. "My family and friends are close by. I've been out in California for about two years now. Illinois is in my top 12 because if I want to go back home and play for my state that's great thing to do."
Rivals.com ranks Jackson the No. 9 prospect overall in the class of 2014. He is considered the top uncommitted player in the western U.S. and was a standout earlier this summer at the Rivals100 5-star Challenge at Soldier Field in Chicago.
Jackson has a top 12 of Florida, Florida State, Illinois, LSU, Michigan, Notre Dame, Oklahoma State, Tennessee, UCLA, USC, Oklahoma, and Oregon. He has said he will cut the list down during his high school season, then make his final decision on or near National Signing Day.
