Illini pursuing Florida cornerback

Rivals.com lists Trenard Davis as a cornerback, but the 6-foot 195 pound Davis does just about everything at American Heritage in Delray Beach (Fla.).
A good all-around athlete, Davis also plays basketball and runs track at American Heritage. In the gridiron, he likes to have the ball in his hands as much as possible.

"I play quarterback, receiver, and cornerback," Davis said. "My coaches put me in the best position where I can make plays. I just want to make everyone around me better."
Davis currently holds seven offers, including an offer from Illinois. The Illini will likely play him at corner should he eventually decide to join their program.
Other offers include Florida Atlantic, Minnesota, Pittsburgh, South Florida, SMU, and Temple. In the coming weeks, Davis hopes to get out on the road to take some visits.
"I'm waiting until after Sept. 1, then I'm going to start taking visits," Davis said. "I would like to go to Pitt, Minnesota, SMU, and Temple. Probably all of them that have offered. "
A stop in Champaign in September is also a possibility for Davis, a trip he could make with his teammate Desmond Cain on Sept 20 during a bye week for their high school club.
At the moment, four teams are showing the most interest. A final decision probably isn't in the cards until near signing day in 2015.
"Illinois, Pittsburgh, Minnesota, and SMU are recruiting me the hardest," Davis said. "Bill Cubit is recruiting me for Illinois, and I talk to him a lot on Facebook. I'm making my decision in February. "
Last season, Davis helped lead American Heritage to a 6-3 overall record. The talented Stallions line up five players with D-I offers. They open the season on Friday at Coral Spring Charter.
"Everything is going good," Davis said. "Everyone is upbeat. We have a good group of athletes, and it should be a fun season. If we work together as a family, I think we will be really good."
Once again, Davis will play multiple positions on both sides of the football, and the college coaches are looking at him to play both defense and offense.
"They are recruiting me to play cornerback and receiver," Davis said. "I would like to play defense, but it doesn't really matter. Whatever position they want me to play.'
