During their bye week, the Illinois staff took to the road and caught up with numerous recruits from both the 2018 and 2019 classes.

Among that group of players was Fort Lauderdale (FL) Cardinal Gibbons wide-receiver Carlos Sandy, who became the sixth commit of the Illini’s 2018 class back in June.

“Coach McGee and Coach Ward passed by for my game the other week, and it was great to finally see them again since the last time I saw them was when I was up there for the barbeque,” Sandy said. “I was really glad to have them come down and watch me play ball, but I also couldn’t let that impact how I played. I knew I had to go out and dominate and keep the same mindset as I do every game, but it was definitely a little different feel with them there too.”
