Illinois is one of the leaders for 3-star cornerback A'shon Riggins from Hamilton (Ohio). The 6-foot, 162 pound Riggins recently visited the Champaign campus, and liked what he saw.
"Illinois is definitely one of my top schools," Riggins said. "I liked my visit up there and the players are my kind of people. And I really liked the facilities and the campus."
Riggins is also just off of visits to Northwestern and Purdue, and he visited Indiana over the winter. Riggins checks in as the No. 39 prospect in the state of Ohio, and is getting plenty of recruiting attention.
"Everything is going well for me," Riggins said. "I have eight offers right now; Eastern Michigan, Western Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Miami (Ohio) and Ohio University."
A good all-around athlete, Riggins is playing basketball on the AAU circuit this spring. Wright State, Belmont, Ball State, and Dayton are a few schools that have shown interest in Riggins as a basketball prospect.
Illinois was one of the first Power 5 programs to show strong interest in Riggins and they extended an offer last November.
He's not ready to make a college decision yet, though Riggins does have an idea what will be the deciding factor for him. He wants to have a strong bond with the current players in whatever program he chooses.
"When that happens and I get that feeling is when I'll pick a school," Riggins said. "I don't care what conference I play in, I just want to play football. When the fans see me play, I want them to think, that guy is a playmaker."
