The Illini's 2015 recruiting class increased by one on the eve of National Signing Day.
Delray Beach (Fla.) American Heritage athlete Trenard Davis verbally committed the Illini, joining his teammate and cousin Desmond Cain, who is also Illinois bound. Davis was in Champaign last weekend for an official visit.
The Illini's class now stands at 21 commitments heading into NSD on Wednesday, with four top targets still on the board.
Ranked a 3-star recruit by Rivals.com, Davis (6-foot, 195 pounds) picked Illinois over offers from Minnesota, Wisconsin, Pittsburgh, SMU, FAU, and others. Illini offensive coordinator Bill Cubit was the lead recruiter on Davis.
Davis played multiple positions at American Heritage, lining up at quarterback, wide receiver, and defensive back. He will likely play cornerback for the Illini.
On film, Davis is a physical corner with solid ball skills. Though not burner - he runs in the 4.6 range - Davis has good overall athleticism and the physical tools to develop into a solid defender in the Big Ten.
The Illini now await decisions from on DT Jamal Milan, RB Ke'Shawn Vaughn, LB Dominic Sheppard, and CB Cameron Watkins.
