Hawn plans return visit to Illinois

3-star offensive lineman Isaac Hawn from Elgin (Ill.) St. Charles North became an Illini target under the previous regime, and how he plans to check out the program this spring and get to know new head coach Lovie Smith.

“They have reached out to me and invited me for a spring visit to meet Coach Smith,” Hawn said. “It will be an honor to meet him and see a spring practice.

“A lot has changed in a couple weeks. I know Coach Smith has a great reputation for winning, integrity, and his players really respect him. I think that he will be great for Illinois with all of his NFL and college success.”

The 6-foot-6, 285-pound Hawn has already been on the Illinois campus several times, most recently in late February.

On the next trip, he wants to spend some time talking new offensive line coach Luke Butkus, who joined Smith’s staff.

“Of course Illinois is still high on my list,” Hawn said. “I am looking forward to meeting Coach Smith and Coach Butkus and learning about the direction they are taking the program.”

Hawn currently holds 14 offers and is getting other Power 5 interest. He plans to hit road in the spring and check out several programs.

“Over my spring break I am visiting Western Michigan, Minnesota, NC State and Duke,” he said. “In early April I am visiting Penn State, NIU, Cincinnati and Miami-Ohio. Vanderbilt has been contacting me and I am planning a visit there soon.”

With no specific timeline for a commitment, Hawn said he wants to see several schools and find the right fit.

He is also putting in time in the weight room during the off season trying to improve before his senior year.

“Right now I am focused on team workouts, helping the young guys and getting stronger,” Hawn said. “I am up to 290 but leaner and faster than I was at the end of the season last year. We are having a great off-season at St Charles North and I can't wait for the season to start.”
