Florida DB adds Big Ten offer

Illinois recently extended an offer to 3-star cornerback Quran Hafiz from Jacksonville (Fla.) Sandalwood.

Assistant coaches Thad Ward and Paul Williams are both recruiting Hafiz for the Illini.

“They had been recruiting me a little bit before they offered,” Hafiz said. “Coach Ward and Coach Williams are both recruiting me. The relationship with them is pretty good. I like both of them a lot.”

Sandalwood is incidentally the high school that produced quarterback Eli Peters, who signed with Illinois I the class of 2016 but has since transferred.

A former Iowa State commit, Hafiz has taken official visits to Minnesota and Indiana. He was at Indiana last weekend when the Hoosiers upset Michigan State.

Other schools showing interest include Nebraska, Virginia Tech, Oregon St, Memphis, NC State, and Fresno St. Illinois has asked Hafiz to visit, and he’s considering it.

At 6-foot, 170-pounds, college scouts like Hafiz’s length for the cornerback position.

“I'm a long, physical corner who's not afraid to tackle,” Hafiz said. “I feel one of my main strengths are press man.

“A lot of coaches like my versatility - I can play corner, nickel, and safety. They like how physical I am and also my coverage skills.”

Look for Hafiz to make his ultimate decision after the high school football season. He plans to be a spring enrollee at whatever school he picks.

“I'll be committing when I sign to enroll early,” Hafiz said.
