Davis talks Illini commitment

Illinois kept the pipeline to Iowa Western C.C. flowing on Sunday with a commitment from Reivers' tight end Andrew Davis.
Davis is the sixth commitment for Illinois in the class of 2015, and they move up to No. 39 nationally in Rivals.com team recruiting rankings. He chose Illinois over an offer from Texas.

The Illini recently hosted Davis (6-foot-6, 220 pounds) for a visit, and it sealed the deal.
"I just liked everything at Illinois - the family oriented coaches, the facilities, the academics," Davis said. "I had a good visit there and it made me want to commit."
Tight ends coach Alex Golesh was the lead recruiter on Davis. The relationship with Golesh and the rest of the Illini staff put Illinois in a good position with Davis from the beginning.
"Coach Golesh was a good recruiter the entire time and just good guy," Davis said. "He played a big role. They have good coaches there, and I just got a good feeling from them. "
Davis is looking forward to playing in the pass-oriented attack used by the Illini and offensive coordinator Bill Cubit.
"I would play attached on the line, and also flexed out," Davis said. "I will just have to see when I get there. Their offensive set can have multiple tight ends spread out all over the field."
The Illini graduate tight ends Matt LaCosse and Jon Davis following the 2014, so securing a commitment from Davis filled a need position.
The fourth IWCC Reiver to join the Illinois program, Davis joins current Illini Martize Barr, Dallas Hinkhouse, and Geronimo Allison.
"That played a little bit of a role," Davis said. "G-Mo was my teammate last year and he went to Illinois. I knew from the get-go that it was a good school. After visiting Illinois and getting a feel for it myself, I realized I wanted to go there too."
