The Illini have it rolling on the recruiting trail and added another piece to the puzzle late Monday night when 2015 wing D.J. Williams committed to John Groce and his program. Williams is currently a 4-star and ranked No. 45 in the country in the Rivals 150.
Illinois assistant coach Paris Parham has been working Williams hard since he came on staff, and that hard work paid off when Williams pulled the trigger late Monday night.
"I just fell in love with the school my first time on campus," Williams told us. "The coaching staff is great. They supported me through my ups and downs. Their style of play fits me. Coach Groce is one of the best coaches in the country, and he makes his players better as a basketball player and a person."
In the past Simeon players would wait until their senior seasons to pull the trigger, but Williams wanted to get it out of the way now before the season started. If you know what you want, why wait?
"I felt it was the right time for me and knew I wanted to go there my first time on campus," Williams said.
Williams chose Illinois over offers from Michigan State, Florida, Georgetown, Tennessee, Purdue and DePaul. Orange and Blue News will have more on this commitment later, and the impact it has on the 2015 class for Illinois.
