Illinois is currently on spring break, but that hasn't deterred the staff from reaching out and extending offers to some new targets in the 2016 class.
Wide receiver coach Mike Bellamy has been active of late in California, the latest offer going to linebacker Jacob Colacion from La Habra (Calif.).
It was the second Big Ten offer for Colacion. He also holds an offer from B1G foe Indiana, as well as Fresno State and Washington State.
"I like how it's coming from a Big Ten school," Colacion said about the offer from the Illini. "The Big Ten is a very respectable conference. I don't know too much about the school yet, but I plan on calling Coach Bellamy and learning more."
The 6-foot-1, 216 pound Colacion racked up 90 tackles and 4 sacks last fall as a junior, helping to lead his team 7-4 record and an appearance in the California state playoffs. Colacion feels he and his team let a few games get away from them, and they are hoping for a better season this fall.
On film, Colacion shows a good burst and is a solid tackler with the ability to chase the football from sideline to sideline.
"I play well in space, and I'm not afraid to sacrifice my body," Colacion said. "I feel like I play with great confidence."
On the recruiting front, Colacion said he isn't ready to name any favorites, and won't make his final college decision anytime soon. He is getting more interest, and wants to weigh all of his options. His most recent visit was for a junior day at Fresno State.
"I am not picking any favorites yet, but I did really enjoy myself at the Fresno State junior day," Colacion said. "I'm not trying to rush anything as of now. I want to see who else is interested before making a decision. I'm hearing a lot from Cal, Duke, Northwestern, and Nevada."
With the offer made, the Illinois staff would like to get Colacion on campus for a visit.
"I have to talk to my parents about taking the visit, but I would love to come and see what the program's all about first hand," Colacion said.
