4-star receiver talks Illini visit

4-star wide receiver Equanimeous St. Brown from Anaheim (Calif.) Servite has suitors from coast-to-coast and has piled up a list of 25 offers.
Illinois was first to offer, and St. Brown rewarded the Illini with an unofficial visit on Monday. St. Brown said one of the highlights of the trip was watching the current Illini players get together for some 7 on 7.

"It went great," St. Brown said about the visit. "I got to watch them practice some 7 on 7, tour the campus, and had dinner with a couple of the coaches."
Wide receiver coach Mike Bellamy heads up the recruitment of St. Brown for the Illini. Bellamy was in California during the evaluation period, and he stopped by Servite to check on St. Brown.
Currently on a swing through the Midwest, St. Brown is also taking visits to Northwestern and Notre Dame before heading back west.
While at Illinois, St. Brown had a chance to sit down with offensive coordinator Bill Cubit to talk about the scheme and how the Illini would use him in their system.
"Coach Cubit talked about the offensive scheme and they talked about how they use the receivers," St. Brown said. "They see me as a receiver who can play anywhere."
St. Brown was one of the top wide receivers last weekend at the Rivals100 Five-Star Challenge in Baltimore. A long and athletic receiver at 6-foot-5, 193-pound, St. Brown is a deep threat who can go up and get the football.
"I'm a tall receiver, but I can move well and make big plays," St. Brown said.
Home-state schools UCLA and USC are expected to be strong in St. Brown's recruitment, and he also holds offers from Stanford, Notre Dame, LSU, Penn St., Texas A&M, and many others.
Being first to offer is a plus for Illinois as they battle some of the top programs in college football for St. Brown.
"I'm going to consider Illinois a lot - they were my first offer," St. Brown said.
