3-star lineman checks out Illini practice

"I really liked the intensity of the practice, the pace of the practice, and that it was really organized," Carlberg said. "I got here on Friday and was able to walk around the campus and see everything."
Rivals.com ranks Carlberg as a 3-star prospect and the No. 2 player in the state of Minnesota. He is a two-way player at De La Salle, lining up on the offensive and defensive fronts. Illinois offered in February.
"Illinois is recruiting me as a defensive tackle right now, but offensive line is definitely a possibility," Carlberg said. "I didn't know a lot about Illinois yet, so the visit helped me get to know them better."
Carlberg participated in the U.S. Army National Combine in January and was selected as one of the top defensive linemen. Rivals.com recruiting analyst Jason Howell broke down Carlberg's game.
"Carlberg quickly showed he was ready to get down to business as he put in work during one-on-one drills against the offensive linemen," Howell said. "He used a powerful bull rush to overwhelm his first opponent and then he showed a little agility with a quick spin move to get inside and to the ball."
Recruiting is picking up this offseason for Carlberg and he plans to take more visits to gauge interest.
"I've been hearing a lot from the schools that have offered me," he said. "Also from Michigan State, Iowa, Iowa State, Oregon, Stanford, and a whole bunch of schools. I don't really have a favorite or anything yet.
"I haven't decided when I will make my decision yet, whether it's going to be before the season or after. Right now I'm just getting around visiting, getting the information that will help me make my decision."
