2016 cornerback Austin Andrews from Columbus (Ohio) St. Francis DeSales currently sits at 18 D-I scholarship offers.
Andrews had planned to make a trip to Illinois, where he expected to pick up an offer from the Fighting Illini, but that's on hold for now.
"I wasn't able to make my visit to Illinois; it just didn't work out," Andrews said. "I like them a lot, and I'm just waiting on the offer. They have talked me about it. Coach (Alex) Golesh said when I made a visit, it was going to happen."
The 6-foot, 178 pound Andrews is a three-star recruit and considered the No. 52 player at his position nationally by Rivals.com. He currently names Missouri, Wisconsin, Boston College, Purdue and Pittsburgh as the schools that are most peaking his interest.
An offer from the Illini would put them in the mix, according to Andrews. He still plans to make the trip to Champaign sometime in the near future. According to Andrews, the academic reputation of the school is a plus for Illinois.
"Illinois will make that list as soon as I get an offer from them," he said. "I've always been a Big Ten and SEC guy, and I'm thankful for any school that's offered me. Being able to get a great education and play football is a dream come true."
Andrews plays running back and cornerback at DeSales, and is also involved in the return game. He posted 33 tackles and 1 interception in 2014, while rushing for 819 yards and 10 TD's.
The Illinois staff was in at DeSales high school to check on Andrews over the winter, and the interest is high. Now it's just a matter of getting Andrews on campus to check out the program first hand.
Andrews talked about what he's looking for in a college.
"I want a place with a great academic program, a place where I can reach my potential as a man and a football player," Andrews said. "The family atmosphere is important and where everyone is bought into the program and makes it fun playing football down the road."
