Martez Malone is high on the Illini.

“I know there have been some coaching changes and I would like to get to know them over the next few months," Malone said. "They have a winning philosophy and they support their players in all that they do.”

That’s why New Lenox (Ill.) Providence Catholic junior wide receiver Martez Malone, a 6-3, 195-pound big bodied target, would like to hear from the Illini.

“I’ve known many students that graduated from there that came out of school with jobs right out of college, it’s close to home and they have a lot of majors to choose from,” Malone said.

Illinois is an attractive option for this in-state athlete. And next up for Malone is the Midwest Boom 7v7 Showcase on January 31st. In the meantime, he’s focusing on recruiting and improving for his senior season.

“Recruiting is going fine right now I am getting interest from some MAC schools, Big Ten, ACC and SEC schools right now. No offers yet, but I am hopeful they will come soon,” Malone said.

Other college coaches have been outspoken about what they like about Malone when checking out his film and passing along evaluations.

“They love that I am a big target to throw too, my wingspan, that I love to compete, and that I get off the ball aggressively against press coverage. There are a lot of coaches that have said I can fit anywhere on offense,” Malone said.

Right now, Malone has been invited to Indiana junior day, and plans to visit several other Big Ten schools.
