Oseland talks latest Illini visit
2015 offensive lineman Quinn Oseland from Springfield (Ill.) Sacred Heart Griffin was back at Illinois for an unofficial visit, this time taking in an Illini basketball game at the State Farm Center.
Oseland said he enjoyed the trip and the game - a 60-49 Illini win over Nebraska. He talked about what stood out the most about this particular visit.
"Just seeing the players again that I've got to meet," Oseland said. "They really tell me a lot about the university and the coaches. They kind of have the same point of view as me, since they are players."
The 6-foot-6, 307-pound Oseland holds a 3-star ranking from Rivals.com and is the No. 13 player in the state of Illinois in the 2015 class.
Other offers for Oseland so far include Minnesota, Mississippi St., Oregon, and other. He has a new Pac-12 offer this week.
"Other than Illinois, I'm hearing the most from Northern Illinois, Minnesota, and Oregon," Oseland said. "I just received an offer from Washington State."
Also in the stand for Illinois - Nebraska game was fellow in-state lineman Gabe Megginson from Jacksonville (Ill.). Oseland said he had the chance to talk with Megginson about Illinois.
"I talked to Gabe quite a bit, and we have talked about Illinois before," Oseland said. "And we text back and forth."
Along with Illinois signee WR Malik Turner, Oseland helped guide Sacred-Heart Griffin to a perfect 15-0 record in 2013 and a Class 5A IHSA championship, ending a long run by Chicago-area power Montini Catholic.
The Fighting Illini are set to conduct an off-campus spring practice at Sacred Heart-Griffin on Apr. 4. The practices kicks off at 5:30pm CT.
"It's going to be really exciting to see them on the practice field," Oseland said. "I live about five minutes away, so I will definitely make it there."
As far as a final college decision, Oseland plans to narrow things down and make the call before his senior year of high school.
"Probably sometime in the summer, the end of the summer at the latest," Oseland said. "I'm just going through it now and see what pops up. I don't really have any top schools yet."
