Lineman talks recruiting, Illini visit
2015 offensive tackle Adam Solomon from Indianapolis Bishop Chatard is piling up the Big Ten offers. Illinois was first to pull the trigger back November, and now Solomon has scholarship offers from Big Ten foes Purdue, Minnesota, and Indiana.
With the contact period in full swing, Solomon (6-foot-6, 290 pounds) has been out on the road making visits, including a recent stop in Champaign for a junior day. He also plans trips to Purdue, Indiana, and Notre Dame.
"I have a few junior days planned, and I just went on a junior day at Illinois," Solomon said. "We got to spend some good quality time with the coaches and their families and learn more about the program. I learned a lot about the school, and that peaked my interest, for sure."
Toledo has also offered Solomon, and he hopes to collect more in the coming weeks and months. Rivals.com ranks Solomon as a 3-star prospect and the No. 4 players in Indiana in the class of 2015.
Illinois defensive coordinator Tim Banks and offensive line coach A.J. Ricker are both involved in Solomon's recruitment. As his potential position coach, Ricker has built a pretty strong relationship with Solomon.
"I have gotten to know (Ricker) well," Solomon said. "He's a real great guy. Other than being a great football coach, he's a very nice person. He knows what he's doing on the field and how to get his players to play to their full potential."
Illinois right in the mix for Solomon, but a final decision is still a ways down the road. He does know what he is looking for in a school however.
"The people, coaches, and the type of school it is," he said. "I want to see what schools are good at what I want to major in, and be able to find a good career after football."
Like most 2015 prospects, Solomon is feeling out the process and becoming familiar with as many programs as he can.
"No favorites yet, but I do like Illinois and Notre Dame is another great school," Solomon said. "I'm just letting things fall where they may. It's a long process and you just have to give it time."
