How Illini recruits fared

Orange and Blue News has the low-down how some of the Illinois commits fared this weekend.

Matt Domer, running back, Chicago Mt. Carmel

The No. 1 ranked Mt Carmel Caravan got a scare Friday night, narrowly escaping Brother Rice on Friday Gately Stadium. Illini commit Matt Domer said the Caravan came into the game over-confident.

"First off, we came out really, really slow," Domer said. "We underestimated them a lot. We weren't prepared and focused going into the game. They definitely gave us their best shot. We were able to bounce back and come through in the end."

Domer had his best game of the season, rushing for 110 yards on 14 carries and finding the end zone three times. He gave Mt Carmel a 28-10 lead in the third quarter with his third TD of the game.

"On the offensive side of the ball we had to step up and make plays because it was a close game," Domer said. "I had the opportunity to do that and help the team. We have a balanced offense. It's a we-thing out here not a me-thing, so I never want to my teammates to think I want to do everything by myself."

The Caravan now hit a tough stretch in their schedule in the Chicago Catholic league with games against St. Rita (4-0) and Loyola Academy (4-0).

"People have gotten too caught up in the newspapers and things about us being No. 1," Domer said. "Teams aren't going to lay down for us. Going up against St. Rita and Loyola the next two weeks we really have to focus on coming out with a great effort."
