Mickey ruled ineligible
Jordan Mickey of Arlington, Texas, considered one of the top signees in LSU's recent basketball recruiting class, was ruled ineligible Thursday by the NCAA.Power forward
Two days ago LSU introduced four members of its most recent signing class to members of the local media, including three of its incoming freshmen.
Missing from that group we're Mickey and forward Brian Bridgewater of Scotlandville. An LSU spokesperson said the two were in Baton Rouge but not enrolled in summer school.
The NCAA ruled Mickey and Prime Prep Academy teammate and TCU signee Karviar Shepherd ineligible after apparently finding academic issues with the newly created school outside of Dallas.
Mickey is expected to appeal the ruling.
Neither Mickey, nor his stepfather James right Sr., were available for comment.
Even though Mickey signed with LSU during the NCAA's early signing last November he is still considered a prospect, thus prohibiting LSU from commenting on today's ruling.
Former NFL standout Deion "Prime Time" Sanders is one of the co-founders of the private school which lured both Mickey and Shepherd away from Grace Prep in Arlington.
Prime Prep had been approved by the Texas Education Agency along with the State Board of Education.
Mickey was a Rivals150 member and four-star prospect and the nation's No. 12 rated power forward. He chose the Tigers over Oklahoma State, Ohio State and SMU.
