Hawks land tenth commit

The Iowa Hawkeyes have landed their tenth commitment in the Class of 2013. The latest verbal pledge comes from Derrick Mitchell Jr., a versatile prospect from St. Louis that Iowa is recruiting as a wide receiver. Mitchell, who attends Vashon High School, made his decision this afternoon.

"It's official," said Vashon assistant coach Brennan Spain. "He committed to Iowa today."

As a junior, Mitchell did a little bit of everything for Vashon with 808 yards passing, 518 yards rushing, and 277 yards receiving, scoring 17 touchdowns in all. The 6-foot-0, 185-pounder also had 39 tackles and an interception on defense and received college interest on both sides of the ball.

The Hawkeyes were actually the first team to offer Mitchell back in February, but he quickly added several more. Along with Iowa, the three-star prospect had offers from Nebraska, Cincinnati, Indiana, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, and Memphis, among others.

HawkeyeReport.com will have more on Mitchell's decision later today.
