Rivals/VTO Virginia: Top story lines
You'd be hard-pressed to find a position of weakness for Saturday's Rivals.com/VTO Sports Elite 100 in Virginia and the matchups should be amazing. The only problem? The camp only runs for six hours and this is the kind of group you want to see go all day and night. Led by the potential battles in the trenches among the big men with players such as Woodbridge (Va.) Woodbridge Senior 2014 defensive end Da'Shawn Hand, here are a few of the compelling storylines to follow.
Da'Shawn Hand is arguably the best young defensive end we've ever seen and that's saying something just two years removed from Jadeveon Clowney. He'll be joined by fellow 2014 freak Andrew Brown from Chesapeake (Va.) Indian River as well as 2013 four-star Bealton (Va.) Liberty defensive end Wyatt Teller. They will be going against Washington (D.C.) Friendship Collegiate Academy offensive lineman Derwin Gray and Pomfret (Md.) McDonough big man Na'Ty Rodgers in some memorable battles. But there are other talented bigs expected on hand as well such as Lynchburg (Va.) Christian offensive lineman Braxton Pfaff and Fredericksburg (Va.) Chancellor 2014 stud Steven Moss. There should be some great battles here and the showcase could be special.
Everyone against Fuller
Last year it was five-star Stefon Diggs that was the target of every defensive back at the camp and this year it will be his former teammate, Kendall Fuller. Wide receivers Paul Harris, Andre Levrone, Taivon Jacobs, Cequan Jefferson and Daesean Hamilton, among others, will all be giving it their best shot against Fuller. However, Fuller is just one of a deep group of defensive backs.
Loaded at D-back
Fuller aside, the rest of the secondary is beyond impressive. Richmond (Va.) Varina's Tim Harris is a four-star as is Midlothian (Va.) Manchester safety Holland Fisher and Nokesville (Va.) Kettle Run athlete Michael Parker. The underclass is well represented as well with Washington (D.C.) H.D. Woodson's duo of D'Andre Payne and Duwayne Johnson, Virginia Beach (Va.) Bayside star Quin Blanding and of course Washington (D.C.) Friendship Collegiate Academy's Jalen Tabor. And let's not forget Fuller's teammate, Kirk Garner, who many feel is a four-star waiting to happen. This would be the deepest group at the event if it weren't for the ….
The linebacker group is a who's who of talent from Virginia and Maryland. Olney (Md.) Good Counsel star Dorian O'Daniel is a top 50 prospect, Richmond (Va.) Woodberry Forest School standout Doug Randolph is a Rivals100 prospect and Washington (D.C.) Friendship Collegiate Academy's Yannick Ngakoue is a four-star as well. Ashburn (Va.) Briar Woods linebacker Matt Rolin has four star potential as well and the underclass is also loaded. Class of 2014 prospects Devin Williams from Washington (D.C.) St. John's College is already committed to Stanford while two Virginia Beach prospects, Aaron Glover and Jahvoni Simmons, are also players to watch.
The linebackers will have to check two of the nation's top 10 running backs in Richmond (Va.) Hermitage baller Derrick Green and Virginia Beach (Va.) Bayside back Taquan Mizzell. Throw in Chester (Va.) Thomas Dale running back Daniel Reid and it's a nice 1-2-3 punch combination overall, but the big interest will be how Green and Mizzell fare against guys O'Daniel, Rudolph, Ngakoue and Rolin.
