Macura looking at possible Purdue visit

J.P. Macura has plenty of thinking to do over the next weeks and months.

Turning in a productive live period helped the Rivals150 shooting guard from Lakeville, Minn., collect several new scholarship offers. Now, Macura wants to go about the business of sorting through his long list of options to make the eventual visit schedule more manageable.

"The main thing is I've just got to sit down and talk with my parents about it," Macura said. "We haven't really set any dates to schools yet but I think we're gonna start doing that soon."

Major offers on the table now include Auburn, Boston College, Florida State, Iowa State, Kansas State, Miami, Minnesota, N.C. State, Providence, Purdue, Texas Tech and Vanderbilt. Butler, Creighton and Xavier are also in the mix.

Purdue offered the 6-foot-5 shooter in July, hoping to add him to the commitment list along with fellow guard Dakota Mathias.

Macura hopes to return the interest with a trip to West Lafayette.

"I don't know too much about them," said Macura, ranked No. 126 in the latest rankings. "I know from watching them over the past years and stuff that I could fit into their program. I think I might be visiting them soon but I'm not sure yet."

While Macura has yet to narrow things down he is looking also at visits to Iowa State, Creighton, Xavier, Vanderbilt and Kansas State. Earlier this week, he checked out another practice at Minnesota, about a half hour trek from Lakeville.

Macura used an official visit on Butler in late June.

Getting on more campuses will be a critical portion of the evaluation process as Macura begins to make comparisons between certain programs.

"Just like the campus itself is the first thing," he said. "If there are things to do on campus, if it's a lively city. I don't wanna go somewhere there's absolutely nothing to do on campus and stuff. I also look at their players, what kind of players they have. Are they good kids? Things like that."

Macura will also begin to apply background knowledge accrued over the last few years in terms of style of play. All that could culminate in a fall commitment and signing in the early period.

"I want to play my game," Macura said. "I don't want to just sit in a corner and shoot. I want to come off ball screens and spread the floor. Education is a big thing too. All these schools that are recruiting me have a good education."
