CHICAGO - Bellflower (Calif.) offensive lineman Damien Mama has the look of a collegiate offensive lineman when you look at him walking around a camp. He checks in at 6-foot-5 and 360 pounds and just draws everyone's attention with his stature. But on the flipside he was one player who was all smiles for the duration of the camp, not something you would expect to see out of a guy who plays in the trenches.

Make no mistake however, once the whistle blows the smile is gone and it is time to work for Mama and that was evidenced with his performance at Soldier Field, a MVP award winning performance, being selected tops on the OL over a group deep in star rankings, offers and press clippings.

After the camp however, Mama was all smiles and told us how much he enjoyed the opportunity to visit Chicago and participate in the camp.

"It has been a great experience to get to go against great competition, the top guys in the country," Mama said. "Yeah, it has been really cool."

These camps can be a bit of an eye-opener for a lot of players who are a "big fish in a small pond" but Mama has gone against several big linemen in his high school career and felt that it gave him a little bit of an edge when it came to the bright lights being shined on him.

"I go against a lot of big guys at home and that helps me a lot," Mama said. "It prepared me for going against guys like Da'Shawn Hand and others big-time guys like that."

Mama told us after the camp that Hand was the toughest player that he went against over the weekend but there were a lot of great challenges during the OL/DL competitions.

At this point the rankings have Mama ranked as the No. 99 player in the nation but you would have to believe that a bump could be in the future for Mama, a player that holds a who's-who list of offers, including one from the Buckeyes. At this point Mama claims that he has no leaders and wants to take a 'bigger picture' approach to recruiting for the time being.

"Right now I am not trying to be picky and I am seeing what I got," Mama said.

The Buckeyes however are a team that is getting some attention from Mama and he would like to learn more about Ohio State.

"There is definitely a big interest," Mama said. "They went 12-0 last year, Urban Meyer is a great coach… so yeah, I definitely want to try to visit Ohio State."

Don't look for a quick decision however with it appearing that Mama wants to go through more of what the recruiting process has to offer through the fall months.

"I would like to try and cut my list down before my senior season," Mama said. "I would like to take all five of my official visits."

And would the Buckeyes be on the list of schools in the running for an official visit?

"I am interested in maybe taking an official there but I have to see what all of my options are," Mama said.
