Schmal hearing from three programs

There are not too many things that are small at about Sam Schmal.

The 6-foot-6, 260-pound defensive end from Atlanta, Ga., has caught the eye of three schools despite an injury-plagued junior season and hopes a productive summer will lead to some scholarships.

A broken leg kept Schmal out for a majority of the year as Westminster went 5-7 but advanced to the second round of the Class AA State Playoffs.

"We did alright," Schmal said. "We got to the second round of the playoffs and but didn't have a winning record. I broke my left leg in the first game of the year and didn't come back until week nine and didn't get back to full speed until the last game of the season."

Although Schmal does not have much game film to send out, three schools are showing interest in him.
